Mohammad Derafshi, a Kurdish detainee from Maku, has reportedly set himself on fire in an act of protest against the way his case was handled by the judiciary.
According to human rights organizations, Derafshi, before self-immolation, went on a hunger strike for one week, but as there was no response, he set himself on fire.
Derafshi is now under treatment in Khomeini Hospital in Urmia, the reports say.
He was arrested in 2016 and was accused of human trafficking.
Kurdistan Human Rights Network reported in 2019 that Derafshi was sentenced to death in public for piracy.
