Alleged Israeli missiles have targeted sites in areas around the capital Damascus, state media said, citing a military statement.

Syrian air defences downed some of them, the report said.

“This is an unusual raid carried out in broad daylight, with most strikes attributed to Israel taking place at night,” i24 news said.

Asked about the attack, an Israeli military spokesperson said: "We do not comment on reports in the foreign media."

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that 5 people have been killed in the attack. However, the Syrian state media said that only two soldiers were wounded.

Israel said previously that it has carried out hundreds of strikes in Syria to slow down Iranian entrenchment.

Positions of Iranian-backed Shiite militias in Syria's Quneitra were shelled on October 25.

The chief of staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Gen Aviv Kochavi announced in December 2020 that his country carried out over 500 strikes against Iran-linked targets in Syria.
