The United States on Thursday blacklisted Iraj Masjedi, Iran’s Ambassador to Iraq, Reuters reported.

According to the agency, the US claims that Masjedi played a major role in the training and support provided by Iran to Iraqi militia groups which are responsible for attacks on American and the coalition's troops and bases.

“In his current capacity, Masjedi has exploited his position as the Iranian regime’s ambassador in Iraq to obfuscate financial transfers conducted for the benefit of the IRGC-QF,” Treasury said in a statement, referring to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGCs).

US President Donald Trump has designated Iran's elite Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a foreign terrorist organization in 2019.
