The Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) on Wednesday imposed sanctions against a very large network of Iranian shipping, who are allegedly controlled and supported by Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC.)

Washington in its statement has also slammed Iranian regime and its Revolutionary Guards for their strong backing of “its terrorist proxy Hizballah.”

“Over the past year, the IRGC-QF has moved oil worth hundreds of millions of dollars or more through this network for the benefit of the brutal Assad regime, Hizballah, and other illicit actors,” US Department of the Treasury said in its statement.

US has blamed Iran once again for its destructive role in the Middle East, which caused instability and insecurity.

“Senior IRGC-QF official and former Iranian Minister of Petroleum Rostam Qasemi oversees this sprawling network, which features dozens of ship managers, vessels, and facilitators.  This complex network of intermediaries enables the IRGC-QF to obfuscate its involvement in selling Iranian oil,” the statement added.

A day earlier, Washington has also targeted Iran’s space agencies and related research centers.

In May 2018, US president Donald Trump withdrew from Iran’s nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Tensions have been rising between the two countries since then.
