The Omani Foreign Ministry tweeted on Friday that they are trying “with other parties” to decrease the ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran, Reuters reported.
“There is a danger that a war breaks out, hurting the whole world…both parties, the Americans and the Iranian, are aware of the danger,” the report cited Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, the sultanate’s minister responsible for foreign affairs.
The foreign minister reportedly met Iranian Foreign Minister Mohamad Javad Zarif in Tehran earlier this week.
Oman is an ally of both US and Iran and played important role in the two countries diplomatic relations back in 1980.
Washington and Tehran have been showing verbal aggression especially in the past three weeks.
Keyvan Khosravi, Spokesman of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council said on Thursday that numerous foreign officials are visiting Tehran these days to mediate between Iran and the US.
“The visits by foreign officials to Iran have increased, mostly representing America,” Khosravi told IRNA, adding that some of these trips are publicized, while others remain classified.
Iraq and Germany are also among the countries, who sent envoy to Tehran aiming at preventing war.
US president Donald Trump pulled out of the 2015 Iran Nuclear deal in May and tensions especially raised between Tehran and Washington since then.
