Tens of thousands of people marched in Berlin on Saturday in a show of support for protesters in Iran opposing the Islamic Republic.

The nationwide unrest in Iran sparked by Mahsa Amini's death in police custody entered a sixth week despite a deadly state crackdown.

The massive Freedom Rally for Iran started in Berlin, Germany, in what is being described as the biggest gathering of Iranian protesters across the world. People from all corners of the continent traveled to Berlin with buses, trains and planes.

The police said on Wednesday they had registered 80,000 participants for the demonstration near the main government buildings in the center of the city, and a German TV channel called the numbers “surprising”.

They were also Ukrainians with their flags in the demonstration, apparently as a sign of mutual support. In a recent move, European Union countries have agreed on imposing sanctions on Iran over Iranian-made drones supplied to Russia and used in attacks on Ukraine.

An Iranian daily close to the Revolutionary Guard has warned Germany of consequences for allowing people to hold a massive demonstration in Berlin against the regime.

In an article published Saturday night, the IRGC’s Javan newspaper described the massive Berlin rally as “a clear interference and support for regime-change seekers by Germany,” vowing it will not remain unanswered by Iran and will cost Germans dearly.
