The Head of Iran’s Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation announced that a research by his organization showed “shocking” results on poverty level in 32 towns in the country, Radio Farda reported on Sunday.
The result of the research, which has been reportedly contacted two years ago, contradict a recent claim of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani who denied “absolute poverty” in Iran.
Morteza Bakhtiari was speaking on Sunday at a scientific symposium, explaining that the number of poor citizens, who do not have access to food and clothing had reached “shocking levels” in 32 towns.
“The government budget covers just 46.7 percent of our costs,” the head of the charity organization explained.
Rouhani had quoted Bakhtiari on December 11 during a parliament meeting and claimed there is no “absolute poverty” in Iran, praising government’s “efforts to fight poverty” in the country.
Iran has been facing wild inflation and severe economic crisis since the re-implementation of US sanctions, which worsen living condition in this country.
