Tehran-Zahedan train derailed on Wednesday,100 kilometers north of Zahedan. Eyewitnesses reported that ten dead bodies were found in the area while 40 others have been severely injured.

"At least 10 passengers were dead and 40 others were injured because of the Tehran-Zahedan train crash." An eyewitness told Avatoday. But official report has only confirmed the death of five.

Abdolrahman Shahnavazi, the head of the Sistan and Baluchistan Provincial Crisis Management claimed, “at least five people killed and thirty-six others injured” after Zahedan-Tehran passenger-train went off the rail.

He added, “11 ambulances have been dispatched to the place of the train wreck, along with two fire engines.”

The cause of the incident is still unclear, but many transportation experts believe that the old, worn-out railroad was the reason for the train to derail.
