The Persian-language account of the Israeli military on the social media platform X announced on Monday evening, March 2, that the headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) had been targeted in an attack.
In the video message released by the Persian-speaking spokesperson of the Israeli military, IRIB was described as the propaganda and media arm of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and referred to as the “beating heart of the IRGC’s machine of lies and repression.”
According to the Israeli official, the organization has, in recent years, promoted what he called the government’s fabricated narrative of protests and portrayed demonstrators as agents of instability. Iranian state broadcasting has long been regarded as the primary propaganda arm of the Islamic Republic, accused by critics of supporting the repression of dissent.
The Israeli military spokesperson further stated that this center had reached the “end of its path” and that the Islamic Republic’s official narrative was collapsing.
Meanwhile, domestic Iranian news agencies have also confirmed that the building was attacked, although further details regarding damage or possible casualties have not been released.
Nationwide Internet Blackout in Iran
NetBlocks, which monitors global internet connectivity, reported on Monday, March 2, that the internet blackout in Iran has now lasted more than 60 hours.
NetBlocks stated that “as tensions escalate,” the shutdown has isolated the Iranian population from the world, cutting off access to vital information necessary for safety and situational awareness, and preventing people from communicating with loved ones abroad.
The Islamic Republic previously shut down the internet during nationwide anti-government protests in January 2026. According to reports, tens of thousands of people were killed within just two days following the internet blackout.
