Several Ahwazi Arab Activists Arrested Following January Protests

Amid a wave of arrests following the nationwide January 2026 protests, human rights activists have reported the arrest of several Arab citizens in the city of Ahvaz.

According to reports by human rights activists, forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Intelligence Ministry arrested Rasoul Jalizi, 30, and his brother Majid Jalizi, 38, residents of the Alavi neighborhood of Ahvaz.

Based on these reports, the two brothers had previously been arrested and imprisoned due to their participation in civil and civic activities.

However, no information has so far been released regarding the charges against them or their place of detention.

Local sources have also reported the arrest of Hossein Hardani, 30, a married resident of the Alavi neighborhood of Ahvaz.

It is said that he had previously been arrested for his involvement in grassroots relief groups during past floods and had served his sentence in Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz.

The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), the media arm of the Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRAI), based in the United States, announced that Iranian authorities have arrested more than 50,000 people during the crackdown on nationwide protests, with new arrests still ongoing.

According to the report, published on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, HRANA stated that at least 50,235 people have been arrested in connection with the recent protests.

The report adds that among these cases, 106 student arrests, 303 forced confessions, and 11,046 summonses have been recorded. It also states that a total of 666 protest-related incidents were registered across 209 cities in 31 provinces.
