Israel was responsible for a cyber-attack against Iran’s nationwide fuel system last month, two United States defense officials told the New York Times in a report published Saturday.

Iran-affiliated hackers also breached an Israeli LGBTQ dating site and released details of its users in the shadow war between the two countries.

Earlier, The Head of Civil Defense Organization of Iran, Gholam Reza Jalali, accused the United States and Israel of the cyberattack that disrupted the fuel distribution system at Iran’s gas stations on October 26, according to the IRGC-linked Tasnim News Agency.

According to the report, Jalali said the attack targeted “the middleware” in the fuel delivery systems. He defined the type of attack as “very complicated and difficult to fend off.”

The cyber-attack brought all of the country’s 4,300 fuel distribution stations to a halt, resulting in traffic jams, long lines at gas stations and other transportation problems.

Iran was able to fix some pumps within days. The distribution system did not fully recover until nearly two weeks later.
