Iranian Army is about to deploy three units of S-300 missile system to its southern border city of Mahshahr, amid escalating tension in the Region, Avatoday source revealed.
“Three unites of S-300 missile system are planned to leave Tehran’s Qasre Firuzeh 2 to Mahshahr in Khuzestan province on Thursday,” a confidential source within the Army said.
The source who talked to Avatoday on condition of anonymity, added that the three units are going to depart from different routes to avoid observation.
“The aim of deployment is to protect Iran’s biggest oil field in Mahshahr,” the source said. “all the unites will be escorted by fighter jets from Tehran to Khuzestan.”
Tension in the Persian Gulf escalated since Saturday after attacks have been carried out on two Saudi Arabia’s oil fields.
A number of US authorities including the Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have blamed Iran for the Saturday attacks on Saudi Arabia’s facilities. A republican senator Lindsey Graham went further and suggested to attack Iran’s oil refineries if provocations continue.
Tehran has denied any involvement, but its Revolutionary Guards have once again threatened American forces in the region, warning that US bases and aircraft carriers are within the range of Iranian missiles.
