Security forces in Iran prevented admires of Iranian poet Ahmad Shamlou to commemorate his 19th death anniversary.

Shamlou is believed by many as the Iran's most influential contemporary poet.

Iran's Writers Association and a group of his devotees reportedly wanted to honor Ahmad Shamlou's 19th death anniversary on Wednesday in Karaj, but security forces did not allow the attendees to enter the graveyard.

"They closed the doors of the graveyard and prevented people from gathering and commemorating his death," an eyewitness told Avatoday.

This is not the first time that government prevent Shamlou's admires to gather in his anniversary.

Security officials do not allow Shamlou's commemoration to take place for years. His tomb had also been damaged by unidentified people several times over the past years.

Shamlou is one of the greatest contemporary Iranian poets, whose works have always influenced and inspired other Iranian writers and poets. He published eighteen volumes of poetry, he also has translated several novels.

His political ideas diverged from the Islamic regime.
