The Iranian supertanker Grace 1, which was accused of breaching international sanctions and detained by UK navy on June 4th, has been released by a court in Gibraltar despite US request to halt the decision on Thursday, Gibraltar Chronicle revealed in a tweet post.

“The news source has also revealed that “Authorities in #Gibraltar have released the Iranian supertanker Grace 1, which was seized on July 4 on suspicion it was shipping 2.1m barrels of crude oil to Syria in breach of EU sanctions.”

Foreign media, covering the news, noted that Washington made a last-minute legal claim against the Iranian tanker after the court decided to release the ship.

But Chief Justice Anthony Dudley, according to Gibraltar Chronicle, claimed there was no US application before the court on Thursday.

“That is not before me,” Dudley was quoted referring to a US legal application against his decision. “There are no applications in relation to the US letters of request.”
