As Iranian president, Hassan Rouhani, joined the president of four other countries in Kazakhstan to sign the convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea, a member of Iranian parliament warned of possible huge lose in Tehran’s share, claiming that parliament played no role in the new agreement.

“President is traveling to Aktau while the essential aspects of the legal agreement on Caspian sea is in shadow; Is it true that Iran’s 50 percent share reduced to 11percent?” Mahmoud Sadeqi, the member of Iranian Parliament said on Sunday in a tweet.

He also informed Iranians that such agreement was made without parliament’s awareness.

“People be aware that parliament members are not aware of what happened behind the scenes,” Sadeqi concluded.

The presidents of Iran, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan will discuss key aspects of cooperation in the Caspian region in various areas. They will also review the implementation of the decisions taken during the previous meetings of the heads of state of the ‘Caspian five’.

The core event of the summit will be the signing of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea, which has been in development since 1996.
