Fateh Sheikh Ali, member of Iraqi parliament asked for compensation from Tehran in relations with brining the extremist group of al-Qaida to Iraq in 2003 to fight the Americans, causing the death of one million Iraqis.
“In behalf of the family of terror victims, I am asking for 11 billion US dollar from Iranian government who killed one million Iraqis when brought al-Qaida to Iraq in 2003 to kill Americans,” Ali twitted on Friday.
His message came in response to an Iranian member of parliament, Mahmoud Sadeqi, who has harshly criticized the Iraqi Prime Minister, Heider al-Abadi for abiding by the US sanction against Iran.
“Iraq owes 1100598 billion US dollar to Iran in compensation for direct destruction during the war against Iran [Iraq-Iran war 1980-1988]. We put this debt on halt, taking Iraqi people’s situation in to consideration. Now the Iraqi Prime Minister is accompanying the agenda of the cruel sanctions against Iran,” said Sadeqi, Iranian member of parliament.
In a news conference on Wednesday, Heider al-Abadi, the Iraqi Prime Minister showed that his country is not happy with the sanctions against Tehran but will abide by them.
“As a matter of principle, we are against sanctions in the region. Sanctions destroy societies and do not weaken regimes,” he said at a news conference.
“We consider them (US sanctions against Iran) a strategic mistake and incorrect but we will abide by them to protect the interests of our people. We will not interact with them or support them but we will abide by them,” he added.
