The Global Campaign “No to Executions in Iran” and the International Committee Against Execution have sent a formal letter to members of the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty, warning of the imminent risk of a new wave of mass executions in Iran.
The letter stresses that following the bloody suppression of the January 2026 protests, thousands of detainees are facing serious threats of execution, enforced disappearance, torture, and extrajudicial killings.
The authors note that numerous reports of mass arrests, a lack of transparency in judicial proceedings, the cutting off of families’ access to information, and the silence of official institutions have all contributed to the deepening of this crisis.
The signatories have called on the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty to declare a state of emergency and issue a formal alert, urging the organization to coordinate international-level actions in response.
Among the proposals outlined in the letter is the organization of a simultaneous global initiative, such as a “Global Day or Week of Action,” aimed at stopping executions and securing the release of detainees and political prisoners.
The letter also emphasizes the need to intensify media attention and launch an international awareness campaign to break the silence surrounding the risks of enforced disappearance and torture in Iran.
In conclusion, the authors call for the immediate cessation of killings and executions in Iran, and for the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees and political prisoners.
