Hassan Asadi Zeydabad, a lawyer, announced on X that his client Vida Rabbani has been on a hunger strike since February 6, 2026, in protest against being imprisoned in a city other than her place of residence, specifically Tonekabon.

He also stated that Vida Rabbani was beaten while in detention at the Sari Criminal Investigation Department (Agahi Detention Center).

Previously, the husband of the journalist and civil activist had reported on Instagram that during a booth (cabin) visit at Tonekabon Prison, he observed multiple bruises on his wife’s body, indicating physical abuse.

Vida Rabbani, along with Abdollah Momeni and Mehdi Mahmoudian, was among the signatories of a 17-person statement that identified Ali Khamenei as the primary figure responsible for “crimes against humanity” in the killing of protesters during the January 2026 demonstrations, and called for the end of the Islamic Republic and for the prosecution of those who ordered and carried out the crackdown.

Previously, TIME magazine, citing two senior Iranian Ministry of Health officials and hospital data, reported that more than 30,000 people may have been killed across Iran over just two days, on January 8 and 9, 2026.
