On Tuesday, February 3, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement announcing that it has established direct and intensive contacts with Tehran at the highest political and diplomatic levels in an effort to prevent the outbreak of a broader crisis.
According to Doha’s official statement, direct communication has taken place between the Emir of Qatar and the President of the Islamic Republic, while Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs have simultaneously traveled to Tehran on an urgent visit aimed at containing the consequences of policies through which the Islamic Republic has, for years, held the region hostage.
Qatari officials explicitly emphasized that these efforts are not limited to Qatar alone, noting that several other regional actors have also entered into intensive consultations.
The statement, along with the escalation of regional political talks, is described as a clear indication that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s anti-human and destabilizing behavior is no longer solely a problem for the people of Iran, but rather poses a serious threat to the stability of the entire region.
Another section of the statement notes that contacts will continue intensively in the coming hours and days, but due to the sensitivity of the situation, further details cannot be disclosed at this time.
In this context, the President of the United States once again warned the Islamic Republic that if it fails to reach an agreement with Washington, “something bad” could happen.
On Monday afternoon, February 2, Donald Trump, speaking to reporters at the White House, said that representatives of the U.S. government are currently in talks with the Iranian government, adding that he remains hopeful the negotiations will yield results.
In his latest remarks on Iran, Trump warned: “We already have ships heading toward Iran—big ships… the best and the biggest… and talks with Iran are ongoing. We’ll see what happens.”
He explicitly added: “We are talking to Iran right now, and I hope it works out, because if it doesn’t, something bad could happen.”
