One week after the start of protests in Iran, at least 23 citizens have been killed during recent demonstrations in the cities of Malekshahi, Hamedan, Harsin, Nourabad, Kuhdasht, Azna, Lordegan, Fooladshahr, and Marvdasht, located in the provinces of Kermanshah (Kermashan), Lorestan, Hamedan, Fars, Ilam, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, and Isfahan. The identities of six of those killed have not yet been confirmed by AvaToday and remain under investigation. State media have also reported the deaths of two people in the city of Qom, one of whom was 17 years old; their identities are still being reviewed.

Of the 17 victims whose identities have been confirmed so far, at least 16 are Kurdish citizens, including one Kurdish follower of the Yarsan faith. One Persian citizen was killed in Hamedan.

Saturday, January 3, 2026
Mehdi Emami, a Kurdish citizen from Malekshahi in Ilam Province, was shot by government forces during protests in the city and died from his injuries after being transferred to Khomeini Hospital.
Farez Agha Mohammadi, a Kurdish citizen from Malekshahi, was killed by direct fire from government forces during the same protests.
Reza Azimzadeh, a citizen from Malekshahi, was shot dead by government security forces during the protests.
Mohammad Bozoneh, a Kurdish citizen from Malekshahi, was killed by government forces during protests in the city.

Friday, January 2, 2026
Amirhossein Bayati, a married citizen from Hamedan, was killed by direct fire from government forces during protests. His body was transferred to Besat Hospital in Hamedan, but authorities have refused to hand it over to his family and have pressured them to identify him as a “Basij member.”
Ali Azizi Jafarabadi, a 42-year-old Kurdish citizen from the village of Jafarabad-e Hezarkhani and a resident of Harsin in Kermanshah Province, was killed by direct fire from government forces during protests. He was married and a father.

Thursday, January 1, 2026
Mansour Mokhtari, a citizen from Marvdasht near Shiraz, was shot dead by government forces in front of Police Station No. 11 while protesting the killing of Khodadad Shirvani. According to informed sources, a Kalashnikov bullet struck his abdomen.
Ahmadreza Amani, a 28-year-old from Azna, a law graduate from Yazd University and a trainee lawyer, was killed by direct fire from government forces during protests. He was shot in the chest and died from severe bleeding after being taken to hospital.
Ahad Ebrahimpour Abdoli, an unmarried man of about 35 from the village of Hasan Gavyar Mirbeg in Delfan County, was shot three times by government forces in Be’sat Square while trying to rescue a woman being arrested; one of the bullets struck his heart.
Khodadad Shirvani, a 33-year-old father of two from Marvdasht, was killed by direct fire during protests. Sources say he was shot at close range with pellet ammunition and later died in hospital.
Mostafa Fallahi, a 15-year-old boy from Azna, was killed by direct fire from government forces during Thursday night protests.
Shayan Asadollahi, a 30-year-old from Azna, was killed by direct fire from government forces during the same protests.
Vahab Mousavi, a citizen from Azna, was killed by direct fire from government forces during Thursday night protests.
Ahmad Jalil, a 21-year-old from Lordegan in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province, was shot dead by government forces among protesters in the city.
Sajjad Valamanesh, a 20-year-old from Lordegan, was killed by direct fire from government forces during protests. He was not a member of the Basij or any government institution, and after his death his family was subjected to threats and pressure by security agencies. His funeral was held on Friday, January 2, 2026.

Dariush Ansari Bakhtiari-Vand, a 28-year-old from Fooladshahr, was killed by direct fire from government forces during protests in the city. Sources report that he was shot with a Kalashnikov and died before reaching medical facilities.
Amirhesam Khodayari-Fard, a 22-year-old from Kuhdasht, was killed by direct fire during protests. Witnesses say he was shot in the head at close range. After his death, authorities attempted to portray him in official narratives as a “Basij member.” He was a follower of the Yarsan faith.
