Talks to revive the 2015 Iran nuclear deal will be on pause for a "few days" after Friday’s meeting in Vienna, Iran’s chief negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani said.

This was the seventh round of the indirect talks between Washington and Tehran on bringing both sides back into full compliance with the deal.

Bagheri Kani announced on Twitter that he met EU political director Enrique Mora and other delegates on Thursday “to take stock of the situation and discuss the way forward”.

“We have made good progress this week. We will convene a Joint Commission today and will continue talks after a break of a few days,” he said.

The exact time to resume the talks remained unknown.

According to a report by the Jerusalem Post, an unidentified diplomat said the talks would resume on Dec. 27, while another unnamed diplomat said they would resume between Christmas and the New Year.

Former US President Donald Trump withdrew from the deal in 2018, deeming it insufficient to shut down projects with bomb-making potential. Iran denies seeking nuclear arms, but has breached the deal with expanded uranium enrichment.

US President Joe Biden has sought a return to the JCPOA, but Iran’s requests and changing of stances prevent the parties from reaching an agreement.
