Iran’s Red Crescent Society said it’ll receive a set of coronavirus vaccine developed by American Pfizer Inc. and Dutch BioNTech SE within three weeks.

The organization’s director, Karim Hemmati, announced that Some 150,000 shots of the vaccine will be sent to Iran “in collaboration with a group of philanthropists in the United States,” according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

There were no further details on the delivery.

In an earlier statement, Hemmati said his organization was negotiating for 1 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine from Iran’s ally, China.

Iran’s Health Ministry says it needs over 40 million doses of vaccine to fight the pandemic.

Iran is among the countries hit hard by the pandemic, which has killed more than 54,000 people with 1.2 million infections according to the official statistics.
