Colombian President Ivan Duque has accused Iran of trying to sell missiles to Venezuela, Middle East Monitor reported on Friday.

“There is information from international intelligence agencies which work with us showing that there is an interest from the dictatorship of Nicolas Maduro to acquire some medium- and long-range missiles through Iran,” Duque said.

According to the Colombian leader, the missiles “have not yet arrived” in Venezuela.

The country’s Defence Minister Vladimir Padrino is in charge of Venezuela’s “approaches” from Iran, he said.

Iran and Venezuela are under US sanctions, which has brought the two countries closer economically and politically.

In the past few months, Tehran has been sending tankers of gasoline to Venezuela despite US sanctions.
