The Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET) announced on Tuesday that its forces in collaboration with Swedish and Norwegian police arrested an Iranian agent, who was planning to carry out a political assassination in Denmark, Danish local media reported.

According to the Scandinavian media the agent is reportedly Norwegian citizen with Iranian origin, who was planning to assassinate an Iranian Arab activist live in Denmark.

“This is a case that entails an Iranian intelligence operation in Denmark, in our view, it was an Iranian intelligence agency’s plan to assassinate a person who live in Denmark,” the PET head, Finn Borch Andersen said.

A manhunt was carried out on September 28 by Copenhagen police that led to the closure of a number of bridges and routes.

The person in question is now in custody and Iranian ambassador, Morteza Moradian, was summoned by Danish Foreign Minister Anders Samuelsen.

“This is completely unacceptable. In fact, the gravity of the matter is difficult to describe. That has been made crystal clear to the Iranian ambassador in Copenhagen today,” said Samuelsen in a statement.
