The United States signed on Wednesday a mutual defence cooperation agreement with the United Arab Emirates as tensions raised with Tehran, Aljazeera reported.

The Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA) was signed by US national security adviser John Bolton during a meeting in Abu Dhabi with his Emirati counterpart, Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

“The DCA will enhance military coordination between the United States and the United Arab Emirates, further advancing an already robust military, political, and economic partnership at a critical time,” said a joint statement.

During his visit to UAE, Bolton said Tehran was certainly behind the recent attacks against Saudi’s oil tankers.

The US president Donald Trump has recently bypassed congress to sell 8.1bn USD in arms to Saudi Arabia and other Arab allies as Iran allegedly threatens their interests.

Last May, US President Donald Trump pulled out of the 2015 Iran Nuclear and re-imposed international oil sanctions against Tehran since November 2018.

Trump’s administration has a special focus on Islamic Republic’s missile program and transferring weapons to its proxy forces. Washington is also hoping to change Tehran’s behavior using sanctions.
