More than 100 Christians were detained by Iranian security forces last week following about 150 others who were jailed last month across the country, Premier Christian Radio reported on Monday.

Iranian government has reportedly ordered the Christians to cut their contacts with all religious groups and gatherings including the house churches.

“It follows an established trend of the Iranian government – as the number of converts to Christianity increases, so the authorities place greater restrictions on Churches,” Zoe Smith, head of advocacy at Open Doors UK – a charity who speaks out on persecution against Christians – was quoted by the Radio.

The organization said that the Iranian authorities punish Christians with “high bail amounts” and “prison terms.”

According to the provided statistic on Christians in the organization’s official website, a number of 800,000 Christians are currently living in Iran.

There is no reliable governmental data on religious or national minorities in the Islamic Shiite-dominated Iran.
