The number of cases of patients with Coronavirus are rising in the Middle East with almost all of them travelled to Iran prior to their sickness.
The virus is reportedly spreading across Iran with official reports saying there have been 15 death out of more than 60 cases. The statistic was questioned by many reports and even by local authorities.
Ahmad Amir-Abadi the representative of Qom, which is believed to be the virus hub, claimed on Monday the number of deaths in the city reached at least 50. The Ministry of health denied the claim, but some other local officials did not refuse Amir-Abadi’s claim.
“Shia Muslim pilgrims who travelled to Qom are thought to make up the majority of the so far small numbers of those infected, in Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq and Lebanon,” The Guardian said.
In a report published on Tuesday in Guardian, concerns were discussed about the spread of the virus in the Middle East especially in Iraq and Syria, where thousands of refugees are still living in tents in camps.
“It potentially could wipe out thousands of people. And there’s no way of tracking it once it gets into a refugee population, given the mobility. These viruses or diseases expose the politics and fragility of public health systems.” Dr Adam Coutts, a specialist on public health in the Middle East at Cambridge University was quoted by The Guardian.
