A number of European Parliament members have urged the union to sanction Iran for its constant violations of human rights, The Jerusalem Post reported.

“A group of lawmakers from the European Parliament on Wednesday recommended linking trade with Iran’s regime on improvements in Tehran’s atrocious human rights record,” said the report.

The Italian member of European Parliament Alessandra Moretti has reportedly noted that “Iran is a country where women are imprisoned for being women.”

According to the lawmakers the EU’s economic relations with Iran must be “conditioned on respect for human rights.”

The polish member of EU Ryszard Henryk Czarnecki went further and called Islamic Republic of Iran “a terrorist regime, which shows no mercy for its citizens.”
