Iraj Harirchi, the deputy of Iran’s Health Ministry said on Monday that Tehran’s health sector is in poor condition and that at least 32 percent of its residents are suffering from psychological problems.

“Over 59 percent of people in Tehran are overweight. Problems such as obesity and air pollution are more common in Tehran compared to anywhere else in the country,” Harirchi said.  “Over 32 percent of people living in Tehran’s metropolitan area, are in need of psychiatric services.”

Iran is facing severe financial crisis since US withdrew from Iran nuclear deal with world powers in May 2018 and reimposed international sanctions against Tehran.

Earlier in June, Saeed Namaki Iran's Health Minister warned about growing corruption inside Iran’s health care institutions with mafia networks who have been doing illegal trades.

During a parliamentary meeting on July 14, Namaki has also disclosed another major financial corruption in the health system, which was estimated at nearly three and half billion dollars.
