Saleh al-Arouri the deputy chief of Hamas, who recently led a delegation of the organization’s senior officials to Tehran, said Iran promised to offer financial support despite its own problems under the US sanctions.

“Iran’s regime isn’t ashamed to fund Hamas with the money of their sanction-stricken country,” al-Arouri said, while praising Iran for its “strength” and “courage.”

The Hamas leader, who is also known as one of Iran’s close friends, stressed that, “despite the fact that Iran itself is under siege and it is squeezed by the US sanctions, it will not miss a chance to provide any kind of financial assistance to Hamas.”

Al-Arouri headed a delegation of Hamas senior officials to Tehran last Saturday in an attempt to seek financial and military support. He reportedly met with the top Iranian authorities, including Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani.

Iranian people are struggling with severe financial crisis due to US sanctions and the political, economic and social failures of the Islamic Republic regime. Yet Tehran continues in providing financial and military support to its proxies in the region.
