Iran’s Ministry of Industry, Mining and Commerce banned export of onions and potatoes on Sunday to stabilize the prices and regulate domestic market.
Prices of potato and onion rose dramatically in recent weeks in Iran. One kg of potato costs almost 160,00 rial ($1.25.)
Tehran is facing severe financial crisis since US President Donald Trump withdrew from Iran Nuclear deal in May and imposed new round of sanctions.
Iranian Currency lost two third of its value raising interest in exporting domestic products to neighboring countries including Iraq.
Videos received by Avatoday shows convoys of trucks filled with Iranian domestic products transporting to Iraq.
Confidential sources confirmed to Avatoday that as Tehran deals with shortage of US Dollar in the market, the export of domestic product to neighboring countries is a way to inject US Dollar to the country.
“The (Iranian) Government is exporting domestic product to neighboring countries and import foreign good to defy US sanctions,” the sourced said adding that importing goods are paid by Iran’s Rial. “They (Government) is receiving the money of exports in Dollar and in this way huge amount of US Dollar are being brought into the country.”
