Avatoday has learned that on the afternoon of Monday, September 24, following protests by residents of the villages of Karavian, Qolqoleh, and Pireomran in Saqqez County, Kurdistan Province, against the continued operation of the Qolqoleh gold mine, one citizen named Mohammad Rashidi was killed and four others were injured.

According to eyewitnesses, Kurdish villagers had gathered in protest against the ongoing exploitation of the Qolqoleh gold mine when the terrorist forces of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) opened fire directly on them, killing local resident Mohammad Rashidi.

Reports received by Awatoday confirmed the identities of the wounded as Mohammad Amin, Heyman, Ramyar, and Adel Rashidi, all injured in the IRGC’s gunfire.

The residents of these villages had rallied to stop the plundering of the mine by the central government but were met with direct fire from security forces.

According to available information, military forces have refused to allow the transfer of the body of the slain citizen and the injured individuals to medical centers in Saqqez or Sanandaj, keeping them instead in a hospital in Baneh.
