An Iranian asylum seeker is on the verge of being deported from Turkey to Iran, where he would face the death penalty, his friend has informed AvaToday.

Alireza Jalilian has been detained in a deportation camp in Aydin, Turkey, for around 9 months now. He does not have access to a mobile phone there.

He was recently able to make a quick phone call to his friend and explain his circumstances, asking him to inform about his situation.

Alireza Jalilian has been falsely accused of killing a police chief in a city in western Iran. A lawsuit has wrongly been filed against him by Iranian security and law enforcement officials.

If returned to Iran, Jalilian will be prosecuted and sentenced to death.

He asks human rights organisations and activists to help towards preventing his deportation to Iran, where he will face execution.
