Islamic Republic of Iran on Saturday summoned Afghanistan’s ambassador over an ongoing wave of protests against the country’s ill-treatments of Afghan migrants.

More than 20 Afghan migrants are believed to be killed by Iranian border guards last month as they had been attempting to cross the border.

Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry is reportedly investigating the case.

Videos published in social media showed protesters chanting anti-Iran slogans while burning a picture of Islamic Republic’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and Ruhollah Khomeini, the leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.

Iran said the protesters attacked its consulate in Afghanistan, IRNA reported.

In a video, an Afghan protester explained that the Afghan migrants drowned last month after being tortured and thrown into a river by Iranian border officials.

He also said the protesters are against Iran’s systematic discrimination against Afghan migrants.
