Mostafa Nili, a lawyer, announced on Sunday, February 8, 2026, that Narges Mohammadi, Nobel Peace Prize laureate who has been detained since December 2025, has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison, along with a travel ban and internal exile.

Writing on X, Nili stated: “She has been sentenced to six years in prison on charges of assembly and collusion, and one and a half years for propaganda activities. As complementary punishment, she has also been sentenced to two years’ travel ban and two years of exile to the city of Khosf.”

The lawyer said that Mohammadi reported in a phone call from the Mashhad security detention center that on Saturday she was transferred to Branch One of the Mashhad Revolutionary Court, and that after the court session ended, the verdict was issued and formally communicated to her.

Nili added: “Ms. Mohammadi said that three days earlier, due to her poor physical condition, she had been transferred to a hospital and then returned to the detention center. When she began explaining the events and the circumstances of her arrest, the phone call was cut off.”

Narges Mohammadi, along with several other human rights activists, was arrested on December 12, 2025, during a memorial ceremony for Khosrow Alikordi, a lawyer and human rights activist, in Mashhad.
